Venus Test
Venus Test by @migucast (Miguel Castaneda)

Oh... Man... Today... We FINALLY joined the world of professional artists by buying our first tablet... Oh, God... 6_9 At first, Nadia and I both took turns trying to use it in Photoshop and Painter and we were so BAD at it...! --;;; And... Then... OO;;;; I decided to give it a REAL test drive and draw a new image COMPLETELY from scratch! And... Since I have no oekaki links on my bookmarks yet, I decided to try and use the Side 7 Oekaki board... However... I wasn't expecting them to have to approve my membership first... And since I didn't want to wait several hours or a day for that, I opened up Photoshop Elements 2, which came with the tablet, (I miss 5... Elements 2 is ... weird... O_o;;;) and... Inspired by an OC remix song called, "Venus Signed Banana Peel" by Injury and Aquas, a remix of Venus' theme, obviously, I envisioned this picture in my head of Venus singing on top of a piano--and this is what came out... O_o;;; It was really hard at first but... once I started treating the tablet like my sketch book, making dirty and numerous lines to form objects... It steadily became easier and easier... I'm sure you'll note that I avoided ALL complex stuff in this picture, no background, no shading, questionable light sourcing--I just wanted to crank out something quick, I didn't want to spend 10 hours on it. :p I just drew the form and colored it quickly. All in all... I'm not sure what I'm prouder of... The fact that it only took maybe 3 hours to do (a record for either a CG or an oekaki for me) or the fact that the tablet's soft pressure interface let me for the first time ever, draw GOOD lipstick (I've tried before and the results have always been so bad they've never been released to the public! :p)! And now that it's over.. I need to rest my sweaty palms... ;_;

Tablets are amazing things, aren't they? Personally, I find it's a lot easier to sketch something traditionally, then use the tablet for all the inking and coloring rather than drawing something completely from scratch on the computer, though that's fun from time to time. This is very nice for a first try, though. You got the form down pretty well and it works for its simplicity. The lips are indeed very nicely done. I look forward to seeing more from you with that new tablet.

Yeah, it'd be bad to lose your connection to good ol' paper... But... In our situation, it'll probably be more efficient for me to draw things from scratch for now... ^^;;;;; At least until I can get a scanner for this computer.

Yeah, I already can't wait to use it again--and yet... I have other things to do first... ;_;

Wow, I really am amazed that you were able to draw something so good for a first serious attempt with a tablet! It does definitely look like how you do your rough sketches in your sketchbook... And yes, the lipstick definitely looks awesome!

I'm looking forward to seeing the more detailed, cleaner stuff you can come up with! ^-^
