I am so glad I don't have to do that at school.

Very good pic, from the thubnail I thought it was a real painting! The full view is really worth it too, it is awesomnely done! I'm in love with those wings and the melancholy expression..she's literally asking "why?" Very emotional.

Beautiful work, and very touching! The wings are gorgeous, and like the above commenter, I love the rat's expression. How sad...

I love this picture, and I don't even like rats. The lighting is awesome, and the ghostly wings are well drawn.

Beautiful. It really did look like a painting from the thumbnail. Wow, it's gorgeous, so realistic yet, "painting"-y. Her expression really does say "But why...?" And those wings +faint+ Oh those gorgeous winds. Thumbs up!

Wow, this is amazing. The expression is gorgeous. I love the lighting, and the anatomy is awesome. ;) As everyone else said, nice wings! I love their style. I also like the little swirlie lights. ^_^ All around wonderful pic -- it's perfect!

Those are some beautiful colors, dear (esp on the rat)--the lighting's fab. You need to post this to more places. 'Cos it's prettie.

I happen to love rats and you my dear ....made this painting look so realistic..and I love most the eyes and little hands..I use to have rats when I was younger and loved them very much .. you took the gentalness from the rat and painted it very well .

Oh my! That very beautiful, I like how you put the expression on the rat. It`s got great depth to the picture, and the colors makes it look very realistic. I like it, great job! ^_~

I like it! Great visage of a rat. Was this from memory or did you get refs? The lighting is excellent I love the wings and the way they're all electricity looking. Their colors are great, and the way you've captured the way that the light casting would be is spectacular. If the circumstances were different I'd say that it's a little too soft. The balls of light in the background look a little bit too generated - like they were rendered on a computer. The only solution to that is either use fewer filters, or do more work for the BG on the paper (assuming you started it on paper.) I woulda gone for a black background, but that's just taste. Your biology is fine, the only thing that I'd question would be the eye, it looks a bit dull, shouldn't it be a little bit more reflective, on account of all the light? Great job.

Thank you for the lovely long comment! :)

Glad you like the wings and colour. It's odd that you say the balls of light look generated - the picture was 100% painted in openCanvas, which doesn't actually have filters. If you don't mind me asking, what makes it look rendered? That way I can avoid it next time. :)

If I were doing this again I'd embed the eye more deeply in the skull - right now it looks like it's stuck on, so in that position it should be a bit brighter. Then again you could say it's that way because the rat's dead, but that wouldn't be very nice would it? XD

Thanks again for the comment!

By the way - to answer the question - the head was from a photo of the dead rat I took, the rest is from memory.

Then again if you spend an hour or so squishing a dead rat, your memory tends to be rather accurate, ref or no...

You had to disect a rat? If i had to do that at school...id rather get an F than disect a rat. I have 3 pet rats...I like this becaues i have a rat that looks just like that.
