Yeh, I totally agree with you about the hill thing - I suck at drawing backgrounds, and I don't like this one (with the exception of the clouds and sky, lol). I didn't actually notice that the muzzle looks like a horse's, though now that you mention it ... bah, I guess it's just me, everything I draw manages to resemble a horse in some way. :P D'oh!

This is Iorek Byrnison, an armoured bear from Philip Pullman's incredible His Dark Materials triology (if you haven't read any of 'em ... read them now!!!). He was my favourite character from the books, and I recently saw Part I of the His Dark Materials play at the National Theatre in London. Wow!! I loved him in that, too! I'm goin' to see Part II next week - except I also have to get glasses on that day too, so it's not all yay for me. -_- Apparantly, my eyes are funny and I see things in a distorted way. รด.O Would explain some of my drawings...
This is the first time I have ever drawn a bear, so be nice to me. >.<
Oh ... and I couldn't work out how to draw armour on a bear, so that's why there isn't any. :P

Aw, wow, that's incredible. I just read part I and I'm reading part II right now. That's an incredible picture, and yeah, I really do thing it captures his personality. I think you drew the fur really well, considering how hard it must be.
I searched Iorek and not expecting anything, but wow, that was a surprise. I always thought his ears would be smaller, for the fact that polar bears do have praportionaly small eyes, but I think this shows more personality.
Very, very pretty. Iorek was one of my fave characters from that series too and I think you did an awesome job of capturing his personality. This bear definitely doesn't look like any run of the mill bear, he looks very intelligent and pensive.
I'm also really impressed that you managed to make the color scheme work, because there are so many ways that a drawing could go badly when your drawing a white bear on white snow, with white clouds (i.e. camouflaged bear). But you managed to make Iorek stand out against his backdrop.
The clouds are very beautiful too, though I kinda wish that you had defined the hills a little bit more clearly. But I suppose that the blur helps to maintain the emphasis on the figure in the foreground. Also, I think that you're very good at drawing bears, especially with this being the first time that you've drawn one. The only minor gripe that I might have is the fact that his muzzle does look a wee bit like a horse's (but maybe I'm just crazy)..
I hope that you'll draw more of Iorek in the future, maybe even in his armor. Keep up the good work ^_^
