Kozik was born in some small town and lived a fairly normal life. He moved to Edmonton later and somehow got to be the drummer for the Dead Layaways.

Kozik is very clumsy, and it is not uncommon for him to trip over his own feet several times a day. He is completely oblivious to the fact that everyone pokes fun at him, and merely plays along with them in his usual overly goofy manner. He is often the brunt of many jokes, not because of his large size, or bumbling appearance, but because of his goofy personality and his tendency to be completely unfunny.

As mentioned, Kozik is quite large, which accounts for some of his clumsiness, but mostly he’s just horridly out of shape. You wouldn’t believe it from seeing him play the drums, though – his elaborate rhythms and rapid fills rumble from the kit like a thunderstorm, sometimes even hogging the spotlight. Kozik will claim he’s just “doing what [he’s] told,” but he has been known to slip in his own improvisation on a theme from time to time.

Kozik is always smiling. No possible event can crumble his cheerful disposition. This also annoys the other Dead Layaways, but Kozik puts this in perspective by saying he has never understood why someone would jump into a polite conversation and exclaim, “What’s wrong? You should frown more.”
