Ernust Ekkehard Character Reference
Space Nazi major general attached to Kurt Schäffer's command in DYOS X.ii. Ekkehard represents the Space Nazis' SS expy, combining blind fanaticism with headstrong, "cult of the offensive" battlefield tactics that result in a disastrous defeat at the Brenner Pass and his discredit as a field commander. A veteran of the "War of '97", he is a wanted war criminal; Ekkehard does not initially recognize Rudolph Krieger, going behind Schäffer's back with an attempt to brainwash him into an obedient supersoldier via the Forced Evolutionary Virus.
- As with the other "OG" Space Nazis that fled Earth, Ekkehard is actually an American expat LARPing as a German.
- Introduced unnamed, his surname was suggested by e350tb during planning for the Innsbruck episode.
- As with Schäffer, Ekkehard was a spur-of-the-moment creation later connected to Krieger for the abandoned FEV arc.
- Schäffer's nickname for him, "Gletkin", is a reference to the novel Darkness at Noon: Gletkin represents the Stalinist orthodoxy of brute force that has supplanted the idealism of the "Old Bolsheviks", replacing Ivanov as Rubashov's interrogator halfway through the story.
- His physical appearance fluctuated in every comic until Rudolph's jailbreak.
Manfred Hickten
De jure supreme commander. Ekkehard has full faith in Hickten's vision, and will regurgitate the party line in response to any of Schäffer's objections or doubts.
Kurt Schäffer
Superior officer to whom Ekkehard nominally serves as aide. He does not appear to treat the feldmarschall's divergences as a genuine concern.
Rudolph Krieger
First encountered during the original Nazi War in 1997; Ekkehard does not initially recognize Krieger until he thwarts the attempted FEV conversion.
