(this is a repost lolz)

if the background is gonna be something more detailed, i draw the lineart on a different layer, but i merge it with the character’s lineart layer right before i color everything

i encourage you to use brushes with different textures, sizes and colors, make the lineart as scratchy as you want too, for greater effect.

Step 1: lIneart

do a very messy lineart, for this example i used a pixel brush at size 1, but you can use any kind

Step 2: color

once you're done with the lineart, color it with the bucket fill tool, if you made the background's lineart on a different layer, merge it with the character's lineart layer. in this case the background is very simple so i made it on the same layer from the start

Step 3: create a new layer under the piece

create a new layer under the piece, use the bucket fill tool and fill that layer with the same color as the lineart.

for this step you can also create a new layer over the lineart and add shadow with any color by turning said layer into multiply mode.

Step 4: you're finished

yay :D

At last, the circle is complete. It's such a simple hack but it solves for so many Paint doodle speckles.

I do something similar for my digital colouring, less for the lineart itself (that's the original pencil lines) than to tease out the gaps between colour zones.

Maybe I should do a tutorial on that...
