Maybe it's time to remove Google+ from the Sharing Links bar.. (and anywhere else it may appear)

Why: Google+ has been shut down in 2019, and so it serves no purpose, and makes Side 7 look a bit outdated

Also, might it be worth updating the "Twitter" share button, its url and its icon? Twitter has a new logo and is now known as "X" (I personally like the blue bird Twitter - reminds me of better times)

Speaking of links, I keep forgetting: dA Group on the main menu? :3

Thanks for the reminders about these links. They should definitely be updated or removed. It's been a long time since I've paid attention to these links. I look at these pages so much I start to overlook details like that.

Nah, I think we should go all in with the retro vibe.

Join us on #side7 @ efnet! Or visit our MySpace page!

Seriously though, good point.

Could probably add that to the main menu.

Video upload support?

While I would love to do that, it's not in the cards at this time. The expense of it is more than we can handle at the moment.

This may or may not already be asked before, but is a dark mode site theme possible as a toggle in the future? It's okay if it's not on priority list right now.

Profile comments, could be a casual way to talk to someone without jumping right into private messages.

Dark mode and themes are something that is in the works.

I'll give it some thought, but yeah, I could probably add that.

Comprehensive profile customization is probably still down the pipeline, but you may want to make this toggleable. Over on dA there are some users that abhor "Thanks 4 Fav/Llama" spam, and remove their profile comments widget to head it off. dA refugees aside, I'm not sure if our userbase leans toward that culture, but it's worth bearing in mind.

(On a related note, I'm not sure how well pagination would play with the way comments currently nest, but it would help avoid massive doomscrolls on high-traffic profiles. See also: the Journals page.)

Good to know. I'll keep that in mind.

Maybe this has been suggested before, but what about Spanish subforums?

Recuerdo que esto era una preocupación importante en los foros de DeviantArt. No teníamos un lugar para nosotros en los foros de DeviantArt. ¿Pero aquí puedes agregar algunos subforos en español, no?

Most other languages don't have a high demand, either because it's not from a place that has a large Side 7 member population (such as with Mandarin) or isn't a popular language (such as with Arabic), but the Spanish world has few restrictions and is neck and neck with English, with a whole continent and a half and two diasporas to summon.

And the memes are glorious (Puss IN Boots anyone?)

So what are we waiting for? Everyone, vamos.

Hm. I'm not against it. I just don't know how we would moderate it as I don't speak Spanish, and I don't think @Thorvald does, either.

Yeah, despite my handle I am not a native Spanish-speaker and rely on a higher-end machine translator to parse the conversations. I'd spitballed "language consultants" but there's presently no administrative strategy for multilingual quality assurance; this thread is basically a crowdsourced stopgap, but responsibility for managing official boards shouldn't be offloaded to the general membership.

"And so on" Can you give me any details? How do they display? Where do you envision them appearing on the site? What kinds of things do they convey and how are they different from journal entries?

What kinds of things do they convey and how are they different from journal entries?

They're essentially Journals sans title, intended for short quips and one-liners rather than long-form articles. When brief enough the text formats as larger and centred, but there's no real restriction on style or length. They're organized on the Journal page, but unlike full submissions can't be Featured for index in the side widget.

They were introduced around 2015(?) and at the time could only be used alongside a really cumbersome activity widget that cluttered the front page with redundant notifications ("You Posted _X!" "You Fav'd _Y!"). One of the very few useful changed Eclipse made was decoupling Status Updates from that feed (which was retired completely—even dA recognized it was useless).

Personally I'm not sure how useful they'd be to Side 7 unless they got a separate feed on the front page à la a shoutbox-expy—these threads basically do the job of collecting brain pickings (and indeed that's where I've duly noted my such status updates).
