As of late I have been remembering that being an artist isn't all sunshine and rainbows. Sometimes it's frustrating and being a creative mind is more burdensome than anything. I'll be honest. Trying to create wipes me out lately.

An artist's pencil (or whatever else they may use for the purpose of making their work) is the outlet of their soul. Sometimes, however, using it isn't a painless process. That's what I was trying to get across here. Not self-destruction, but the fact that creating can really take its toll.

This was done with acrylic paint, which I haven't used in forever, and last time I did it was for a school assignment that I hated. Somehow I felt like paint would be a stronger medium here than my usual markers. It isn't the most realistic painting of a person I've done, but realism wasn't the point.

The face is hidden partly because it's hiding the artist. The world is frustrating and they don't want to deal with it. It also makes this less of a portrait, though it does express what I'm dealing with right now. Plus it adds to the sluggish, "defeated" pose. I also decided that hiding the face was for the best to avoid viewer biases based on style, be it anime, cartoon, or whatever else.

At first the splotches of red and blue were my desperate attempt to not waste pigment. After the fact, however, I decided that they work. They are a contrast to each other, giving the some frustrated energy. They also represent two negative emotions: Sadness and anger. Two things that can rise when an artist is frustrated.
