My 82nd submission to DYOS X. [link]

DYOS has always been something of a balancing act. The funniest comics are often non-sequiturs, while a cohesive story risks becoming bogged down in its own atmosphere. This was especially prevalent in the older threads, with DYOS 5 demonstrating what happens when a "serious" story goes wrong; at the start of DYOS 10, kulade himself cautioned against focusing too heavily on the narrative.

But that may have all simply been because we were amateurs. By the end of DYOS 10, something had changed, and its sequels more closely resemble a 'traditional' graphic-novel-style webcomic than any of the old threads ever did. As a result, plot and prat-falls consolidated. Even Part II, created specifically for sobriety, maintains a sly humour throughout. Melodrama wasn't a pressing problem for 10, and in fact this went to air during a high point in the thread.

I had a lot of fun playing with shadow effects in the GIMP for this one. :D

@fragmented_imagination: My best pages are often the ones that came completely off the cuff. B^)
