Thanks to Gollum who insidiously whispered to him that the chubby gardener wanted the Ring, Frodo turned abruptly away from Samwise and told him to "Leave...Go home!"

So of course the ever loyal Samwise is upset. Hugs Sam in sympathy

EDIT: I forgot to point out that if Frodo's face looks narrow, it is supposed to be this way: in the ROTK book, Frodo was losing weight and getting thin thanks to the evil power of the Ring as well as the grueling travel to the Cracks of Doom.
