It seems like your problem with this not looking like he is catching her is that it doesn't look like they are in motion. They seem to just be standing there...maybe have her bent or show her feet in the air...and with the ball having no definition what you need to do is add some highlights...since the ball is round, you should shade lighter in the same curves that the ball follows, and since it's a plastic beachball maybe show a light glare where the color is really light and gets darker farther away...it's sort of hard to explain, if you want an example I'd be happy to help you, just contact me and let me know.^_^ I still think it's a very good picture.
