26. Despair
26. Despair by @NosaneTryhard (Nosane Tryhard)

If you saw my previous post then... Yeah...

So Sephiroth had a pendant with the image of his mother. Hojo (Seph's real father), gave it to him without a single word only that her name is "Jenova". This was a lie since Sephiroth's real mother's name is Lucrecia.

So during his mission, Sephiroth was showing others the photograph of his mother and asking people if they ever saw her. One day he lost his pendant in a fight and ended up scavenging the corpses. People even asked his allies to make him stop because it was creeping them out.

The scene where he dreams his mother is... beyond heartbreaking.

And upon checking the Japanese translation, it turns out that this is how Sephiroth's room actually looks like. No windows, no proper bed. Nothing. He grew up in this.

To make things even more depressing, in Crisis Core Sephiroth told Zack and others that his mother died on birth. Even tho he couldn't know that, this was him coping in belief that she didn't abandoned him.

It gets even sadder. Lucrecia is alive during the entire timeline. This is due to Jenova influence on her body which made her technically immortal, but due to her wretched mental state, she trapped herself in mako crystal, where during the Sephiroth/Jenova event, Vincent spoke to her once more, telling that her son is dead.

Good God. The deeper the backstory delves, the more I can understand why he would decide "Fuck This World".

@Thorvald: It kinda gets even more depressed since, in original game, Hojo claims Sephiroth doesn't know he is his father. He doesn't just reveal that, no he laughs about it and then gloats how he would gladly see his face if Sephiroth would find that out since Sephiroth loathed Hojo among ever other scientist in Shinra (I wonder why).

@NosaneTryhard: Hojo is basically an even more assholish Gendo, innit?

@Thorvald: It gets even worse than that. Like, at the time when Shinra kidnapped Aerith, in the Original game he wanted to breed her with Red XIII who is a quadrapedal, red, wolf like creature animal (tho it was more like it was just his sick sense of humor). However in the Remake, he coldheartedly discussed with Shinra how he wants Aerith to reproduce, but since main speciment of Project S is "dead", he is about to get her breed with failed experiments aka mutated SOLDIERs. Later on, after he discovered that Sephiroth is actually alive, Hojo did a monologue how, if he gets everything prepared, he will force Sephiroth onto Aerith and experiment on their offspring

I don't think there is any villain more vile than Hojo is. Hojo literally abused Lucrecia while she was pregnant with Sephiroth and immediately after his birth he took him away from her so he could experiment and torture him straight away.

Furthermore Hojo:

  • killed Gast who didn't wanted Hojo to experiment on his wife and Aerith's mother (Gast was the only scientist Sephiroth didn't loathed).
  • shot Vincent after he discovered what Hojo was planning to do with Sephiroth and then proceed to torture Vincent just to see how much human body can endure pain
  • laughed when Sephiroth burned down the Nibleheim
  • went full Jenova in Dirge of Cerberus by possessing one of the characters so he could take over the entire universe
  • kidnapped Cloud and Zack after Nibleheim incident, keping them in coma for years while experimenting and torturing them and trying to make Sephiroth clones out of them
  • gloated how he disected Aeirth's dead mother into pieces to Aerith herself
  • offtenly talks about his own son as speciment while every other being he adresses as property and/or tool

@NosaneTryhard: Ah, so what you're saying is Hojo is the closest Japan has come to acknowledging Unit 731, got it.

he wanted to breed her with Red XIII who is a quadrapedal, red, wolf like creature animal

Figures he'd be a B*zzly member. :^)

@Thorvald:

Aeh! Some people even joked if Hojo is a furry due to this scene with Red XIII. XD

Tho there isone thing that's just... Bizarre when it comes to him and that's his fans. Yes, this dude who looks like his own personality has a fanbase, and quite a large one. I know anime villains with more appealing look and charisma to have smaller fanbase than him, 'cause wierdly enough, Hojo fanart and fancomics are not hard to stumble upon. Pixiv, Deviantart, Pinterest... all of them contain fanart upon fanart of him being shipped with Lucrecia and other characters he had ruined their lives. Utterly bizarre for real.

@NosaneTryhard: I mean, looking at the current election cycle in a certain country this year, for some people, The Cruelty Is The Point. :x

Also this may be a bad time to mention a friend of mine adopted a Dutch shepherd named Hoju—possibly in part because of the similarity to "Hojo".
