Romeo & Juliet by @Arloquin (Arla Moon)
Lord my scanner killed it. Juliet's skin looks pebbly...blehhhh.
Well, this is the final piece in my series - Romeo & Juliet. The pose is inspired from the movie, but I changed their faces and the shading to my own. Even though I love Olivia Hussey and think she's beautiful, she doesn't look very Italian to me. I tried to make my Juliet look more so. Did it work? mehh...sorta.

I really like this. It's always cool to see Shakespearean themes in art... they haven't been quite as prevelant as back with the Pre-Raphealites, so I like seeing stuff like this! I think your shading is very nicely done--you get a good feeling of mass and shape with it. However, the darker lines around the edges tend to flatten it a little bit. Try working without lines--doing drawings of 'mass' so to speak--if you use a very dull pencil (not sharp at all) and draw in the shadows first, then spread it out over the lighter areas, finishing with lines where there should be lines (like in the details, eyes, noses, lips, and faces) it should help make your drawing look even more three-dimensional.
I really do like the pose. It really is a Romeo-Juliet piece--the way she holds him and they look out towards the world seems to say "It's just us against them." R&J is actually a really beautiful story that has been done to death so it's become rather trite. It's sad, but I do enjoy seeing beautiful pieces of art like this. Great job!
