Unsubmitted Contest Entry - Mimsy by @migucast (Miguel Castaneda)
Another picture for Ayvuir's contest, one that I think is even BETTER than the Sara one... Alas... I couldn't finish it before the deadline. Perhaps I could've finished it if I didn't spend all my time last night fretting over her hands and feet only to eventually quit and hide them because I couldn't make them look respectable enough (hey, YOU try drawing perfect digits against the clock with a splitting headache while being half asleep because your crazy job forced you to work with barely any sleep at all between shifts)... Or maybe I could've finished if I hadn't dozed off after opening presents this morning until 5 PM... Either way... I got it down to about 10 minutes left to go with Mimsy pretty much done, except her... Uh.. "downstairs" wasn't... "Furnished" yet, if you follow me... And the background hadn't been colored yet.... Then Nadia bursts into the room with an insane look in her eye needing a floppy immediately so she could send in HER entry to the contest before the deadline... At that point.. Yeah.. I knew I wasn't going to finish unless by some miracle, Mr. Blue lived in a different time zone and his Midnight was different from my Midnight but... No... Didn't work out that way... 20 minutes of her screaming in my hear, panicing, crying, and yelling at me later... She got it uploaded and accepted as the last picture of the contest. I didn't finish the picture until some 7 hours later (including the unknown amount of hours Nadia and I spent playing a pirate themed board game I got for Christmas plus a couple of hours of watching the Venture Brothers Marathon on AS while eating some Manwiches...)... Anyway... Here it is... And the schpiel for the contest, even though it's too late now:
The contest was supposed to be about obscurity and I can find no show more obscure in my mind than Super Dimension Century Orguss. The "sister" show of Super Dimensional Fortress Macross, sharing the exact same staff, at first people thought it was a sequel. While the series sported many references to Macross (the first episode alone featured a quick cameo of Vanessa, Sammy, Minmei, and one VERY naked Lisa Hayes! XD) it had nothing at all to do with it and ... Well.. If anime were like race horses, Orguss came from a fine pedigree and yet failed to take off running. At least in the US, anyway.
What's funny though, is that while its dub may be considered one of the worst produced at the time, its cast featured some of today's more recognizable voice actors such as Steve Blum (Spike Speigel, Roger Smith), Melissa Charles (Ed, Ninamori), and Dorothy Melendrez (Meryl Strife, Kaoru). And weirder than that is that here in the ol" US of A, the series' ties to Macross have been kept in an odd way... In what way? Most of today's best dub series feature a mix of both Robotech AND Orguss Alums. Cowboy Bebop, The Big O, Rouroni Kenshin... If its good, there's at least ONE cast member from Robotech or Orguss in it... If it's really good, both. Kinda ironic, I always thought. XD
As for the show itself... And the girl in question here, Mimsy... The story goes a little something like this... In the not-so-distant future, the two super powers of the world, the United States and the Soviet Union cooperate on the biggest piece of civil engineering known to mankind, The Space Elevator. Capable of transporting goods and cargo into orbit without the massive energy and financial costs of using rocket technology, it's very existance could unbalance the economic terrain of the world. Shortly after its completion, the Soviets take it for themselves, and the US, deciding if they can't have it, no one can, launches an operation to get rid of it for once and for all, though not by tearing it down, as that would cause untold destruction. Instead... By... Sending it to... ANOTHER DIMENSION...! With the Space-Time Oscillation Bomb! Fighter jockey, Kei Katsuragi, is part of the operation which ultimately fails. Not wanting to accept the loss, Kei attempts to arm the bomb himself, rather than letting it self-destruct. The bomb goes off in Kei's face and the next thing he knows, he's 30 years in the future and picked up by a human-like race called the Eeman. He soon learns that the bomb destroyed the dimensional barrier that keeps ALL dimensions and realities apart from each other. Now, the Earth is a confused and constantly changing patchwork of alternate universes and civilizations never meant to meet. And in this world three powers now fight for their very existance... The Chirum, the remains of the United States of Kei's world, the Eeman, a strange breed of human whose most prominent feature are the tentacles that protrude from their hair (two for girls, one for men), and the Mu, a race of intelligent machines who wiped out all life on their world and now wish to do the same to this new world. And to make matters worse, seperating the confused Earth from the rest of the universe is a dimensional tempest that cannot be penetrated and is also causing a global warming effect that will kill ALL life eventually if a solution is not found. And little does he know it... But Kei, himself, is the solution and the Chirum and Eeman will do whatever it takes to seize him and recreate the world in their own image. Though, for much of the series, Kei only cares about one thing and one thing alone... Mimsy. And doing whatever it takes to get into her pants. XD
And so... Here's Mimsy in all her glory! Also the Space Elevator and the Earth to boot! XD
Very cool <3
I love the hair style on her!
