@Thorvald: Well . . . I guess that’s one way to summon the mighty Mothra.
Sketchbook Mothra by @Agondray
High school sketchbook drawing #20.
Any kaiju fan should know this one. But in case any you don’t, I’ll explain. This is Mothra, or Mosura as she is called in Japan. She is essentially a colossal moth who serves as a guardian of Earth, protecting it from aliens and other giant monsters. Mothra starred in her own movie in 1961, before becoming part of the Godzilla franchise. Godzilla and Mothra definitely have some history, ranging from being fierce enemies to unlikely allies depending on the film.
This drawing in particular is based on a miniature statue that still currently own, although one of the legs is lost since then. I practically used that as my reference for this sketch. I took off the Mothra figure and examined it to make sure I got the details just right. I also had to work around the space of the page to make sure I got everything important in. Overall, I think I managed to make it work and pleased with how it turned out.
Fun fact: Mothra is considered one of Toho’s ‘Big Five’ movie monsters; along with Godzilla, Rodan, King Ghidorah, and Mechagodzilla!
Mothra is (C) of Toho
