Who's that comin' from somewhere up in the sky? by @SkyBluePerspective
The Care Bears were a part of my childhood, especially the Nelvana toon from 1986. One time this old acquaintance was telling me about an idea he had for two new Care Bear Cousins, Graceful-Heart Swan and Splash-Heart Platypus. All I got were a couple of names, but I’ve always wanted to conceptualize and draw these two for funsies.
For Graceful-Heart’s tummy symbol, I thought of either gold or pink ballet shoes over a red heart, since ballet dancers are graceful (plus, this might be on the nose, but there's also the play Swan Lake). I wanted people to look at her and immediately recognize her as being a swan, so she's not nearly as rotund as the other Care Bears and Cousins are. So basically I went and chibified a swan. I also gave her a choker necklace, since several characters wear clothing/or accessories in the Nelvana show. Graceful-Heart isn't just physically graceful; she also embodies the ideal of being graceful in how one treats others.
I figure Splash-Heart’s center would be enthusiasm. She loves trying out new things and always makes a big splash whenever she does something. Also, she'd speak with an Australian accent.
Graceful-Heart and Splash-Heart belong to That One Evil Writer.
