Escape! by @migucast (Miguel Castaneda)
Another old picture that's been lying around for a while waiting to get done. Like the Metroid picture (though it's a lot newer than it), it's a composite image where I drew Link and Zelda, Ganon, the statues, and the Dark Nut Separately on different pieces of paper, scanned them, CGed them and put them all together into one image. The whole idea being to try and emulate the original Zelda's art style... I'm not sure I got it right, though.. :\ One thing I know people will complain about almost immediately is Zelda herself--she, like Link is based on the first game's original artwork, though... I've only seen a single drawing of her ever and it was on a scanned ad for the game's Japanese release on the Famicom Disk System. And it was this simple image, along with Zelda 2's manual which... Even though it was a different Zelda, had a similiar dress and was thus useful. Ganon... I've never been able to find ANY official art for him from the first game so he's actually based on Capcom's artwork with his clothes taken from his Zelda 1 sprite. As for the floor tiles... Originally... Those tiles we planned to be layed out the same as the game however... Some ... Proportinal problems occured... And I couldn't do it that way... :( Anyway, it's done. Next... Mario! ;)
Yaaaaaaaaaay, I'm so glad to see this picture finally finished! It's definitely worth the wait! Everything is so wonderfully detailed! I love the statues and the background, and Zelda's dress is really pretty! The metallic shading on the Darknut and the transparency leading up to Ganon's look really nice, too! Did I mention that the background is awesome? Because it is. I'm so impressed that you made the tiled floor and wall...
I wish Link's sword was straight, though... ^^;; And while I figure the Darknut is also holding one, the shading doesn't really suggest a long sword. I'd imagine the sword would cast a diagonal shadow on his left leg (our right) to show its length... Also, the head of the statue on the right seems like just a flat drawing, as opposed to the rest of its body and the other one...
This has to be one of the coolest drawings you've ever done. You have a great talent for making full scenes--this one, the Greek Samus piece, the Twoson bus stop... Do more, pleeeeeeeeeeeeease... ^-^
