I often ponder how ancient ruins decay the way they do: like, how a single corner of the temple beat the odds and stands today while the rest has vanished.

Though I suppose like the Pyramids, derelict buildings may be scavenged for material in a more deliberate deconstruction.

it can happen, but this part has been partially restored by the antiquities department :)
