Here is something that I painted over the past weekend. Took me about 4-6 hours to complete.
This is one of 2 paintings of mine that I entered for the “We Are All Artists” show at the Butler Art Center and Gallery. The show itself will be running from November 8th till December 2nd.
I was wanting to do some more painting ever since I took those art classes at my sister’s studio. I was rummaging through some of her old art stuff she left at home, and found some old but mostly still useable acrylic paint, as well as some old and faded canvases. I decided to use some of that paint to create some create some new stuff on those canvases for the art show.
This painting in particular was made using some heavy duty acrylic paint that took a little bit of work to mix. I like how I made the sunset and the darker parts of the water, but not so much with the ripples and the sun glare. I’m also not too sure about the vegetation in the foreground. Again, I was working with older paints we had, so I was kinda limited to the amount of detail and colors I could put into this.
(I should probably do some art supply shopping to get some more fresh paints)
I don’t know, what do y’all think?
By the way, both paintings will be up for sale at the art show if any of you happen to be in the area. I have “Sunset Horizon” priced at $60.
These colors look really nice together. If it's already entered in the show then it's too late to do further edits, but if you had some wetter paints and smaller brushes, spending just a little more time on the foreground trees and plants could have been a small thing that made a big difference. Matching the original colors might not be easy though; the tones and textures of old art supplies can be surprisingly difficult to duplicate. (That's why I hoard all of my "trash" supplies, and I hate throwing them out if there's still any life left in them.)
Best of luck in the show! I hope that your adventures with painting inspire you to keep trying new things with your art.
