.:The Lights of Space:. Character Reference
The realm of Valgustra, the world of which the AU exists, has many 'Greater Beings' that are pieces of the World's essences and balance. These greater beings are called Ancients. These beings are large, powerful beasts with the body of a Nature's Monster but the high intelligence and understanding of a mortal. Each Ancient bared an Arcane Core, a piece from the Wonder they represent of their very world which grants them their power and control of the World's respective element. Back before the Ancients disappeared and became only myth left in stories to be told by those who even remember them, they were once honored as deities. Being from a higher plain of existence that kept the world of Valgustra in harmony of balance. However, the strain between mortals and Nature's monsters were becoming so heated that the mortals came to the Ancients for aid, wanting them to join the fight for mortals to take out Nature's beasts. Refusing as that would require them to meddle with the balance of the world, mortals made the decision to slay the Ancients and make armor and weapons of their hides to wield their powers for themselves. They figured if they couldn't get the Ancients to use their powers to fight for them, they would take their powers for their own for their own goals. With Ancients being highly prized by those seeking their arcane cores, they were forced to go into hiding with the help of their current king, Sillaas, the Ancients with their selected Guardians disappeared from the face of the world of Valgustra, leaving many to wonder what happened to them till this very day.
Legend of Vedvulon
The being of Space, the very essence of the void in an embodiment form was one that was highly feared and respected of his time. Mated with the Guardian of Time, Time and Space were an engenius pair of creation across the lands. Aiding in discoveries and understanding the mechanics of machines, large castle structures and arcane-powered creations, they were depicted as highly curious beings with far higher understanding of the world than any mortal could dream to comprehend. At times, they were even too curious for their own good that brought them down the path of mortal greed following their every step. Vedvulon, translated to 'Black Night', was depicted as a large, long bodied wyvern with wings so large and so deep that the Nebula lights that would glow within them would make those who stare into them feel the void of space wanting to pull them in. However, that feeling wouldn't be too far off as his abilities over the void were also rumored to have many trapped souls within his being and that these souls would be seen within the black mass of liquid that his wings and fur would 'bleed' as they'd reach out to grab anything they could to try and pull themselves out but to no avail. These powers of space however, also allowed the large wyvern to not only open portals across the land for fast travel, but also believed to open portals to other worlds. While it isn't confirmed and with the large Ancient having disappeared with the rest of them, the window of opportunity has long since closed....however, the mysterious arcane creations left behind by the Ancient of Space and Guardian of Time leave many speculations and hints that they indeed once beared the powers of worldly-travel....however, the level of understanding to repair and operate these very creations are beyond what mortals can accomplish. The last encounter with the Ancient of the Void was had on the same day the Guardian of Time had been slain and the large wyvern fled after a near death battle took place as the very hunters used the armor and weapons made from other Ancients against him. It is unclear of where the Ancient of Space had gone, but was far believed to have died from the injuries he had sustained from that very day....
Oh, but how wrong were their beliefs..
W.D.Gaster
Taking the identity of a Commoner Mage, the elder keeps his existence mainly a secret from the world he lives in, choosing to live within the ruins of Vedvulon's old territory to 'study the history' of the ruins. Having all memories of his past existence before the seal Asgore had gifted the remaining Ancients and their Guardians, his mind is plagued with many troubles and sorrows of what he once had and was all taken away that one fated day. His personality is very calm, understanding and almost regal if not a touch fatherly by nature, having once had offspring that he truly believed he had lost the same day his mate was taken from him as he was never able to recover them. With Ancients and their Guardians having disappeared from their legends and now lived as commoners among their hunters, it made finding other Greater beings near impossible as they were hidden away even from their own kind. Gaster now lives a nearly solitary life, rarely coming to towns for supplies and old scrolls that the local library would sometimes get in in hopes they'd give him pieces of his lost past to hopefully answer the questions he's held onto for so long.
