Polish army general and member of the "Group of 18", a council representing the individual armed forces of the Eastern Union's member states. Nicknamed "Brusilov's attack dog", he is a tenacious leader with paramount insight into the most difficult art of war: logistics. Introduced in DYOS X.ii, Czciborycz is a frontline commander in the Nazi War, driven by personal guilt over failing to evacuate his wife during the initial invasion of Poland.
Trivia:
- Czciborycz's comical reaction to the initial Space Nazi landing is a reference to a running gag on CivFanatics: several users from ex-Soviet Bloc countries would express hostility when described as "Eastern European" (the term bearing connotations of Russian domination), with high-profile Polish users the most frequent complainants. Bona fide semantic debates begat low-ball trolling with absurd proclamations of where Poland "really" is. In DYOS, several characters derail a conversation simply by shouting "Poland!" and triggering a fight.
- I don't have the original correspondence with @GenMarshall so I don't recall how much of the invasion of Poland was planned in detail, but I had intentionally framed the initial landing as poor tactics, partly expecting the Nazis would fit CG's track record of facile opponents, and partly because we thought the war would be a shorter story than it wound up. The Union withdrawing was throwing an idiot ball to myself so that CG could have his WWII-expy—had Czciborycz followed his instinct and held, the landing would have been aborted.
