Originally created as Newtype MS pilot for the Fallen Angels Gundam Wing RPG, Gavin is a character that I've grown quite attached to and one I'm planning to convert for my original character series stuff.
Born to a poor family in Los Angeles, Gavin was a bright youth...but one whose parents could not afford to send him to any good schools. Instead, he had to attend the nearest public schools, and was often bored in classes, getting good grades with ease. His mother worked as waitress in a local resteraunt, and his father was a car mechanic with a tendency to come home drunk at night. Because of this, the Rinc home was not often a happy one; Gavin's father taking out his anger and frustrations on his wife when he was drunk. There was little the boy felt he could do to help his mother, and things continued to get worse over the years.
At the age of 17, Gavin began to fall in with the wrong groups and started doing drugs to escape his problems. He'd stay out late at night, not wanting to hear his parents argue and fight with one another. But because of this, he was not home to save his mother the night his father went into a drunken rage and killed her with kitchen knife. Gavin came home later to find his family's apartment crawling with police, his mother dead and his father arrested. The youth, himself, was arrested and tried for drug use and possession. But while his father was sentenced to life in prison, Gavin was given a second chance; either seven years in prison, or six months of rehab followed by four years of military service. Gavin chose the latter and was immediately sent to rehab.
He fared well enough with the Earth Sphere Alliance Military for a while, but one night a friend of his got his hands on some drugs, and the two were caught red handed with the goods by an officer. The other youth was court marshalled, and Gavin was sure he would share the same fate and end up jail time...but it was not to be. Having tested positive through the entrance exams and physicals held by the military, he had been found to possess some latent Newtype (or psychic) abilities. Figuring they could put this to good use, the military shipped Gavin off to a base in Greece overseen by the Specials and run by a group called the Firewalkers.
There, Rinc was exposed to more testing and then asked to remain to become one of five pilots chosen for an experimental mobile suit project. Not wanting to go to jail, Gavin agreed. And after several months of testing, preparation and training, he and the four others were brought before the MS and allowed to pilot them. There was just one catch...
All five were surgically grafted into their suits.
The other four had been prepared to do whatever it took to get into the project, believing that they were superior to any other soldiers and had been chosen for this great task. Gavin did not share their feelings, and when things began to go horribly wrong in the testing phases, he began to lose his mind to the pain and trauma of the experience. Unbelievably enough, Gavin was the only one of the five to survive. The rest died during the test phase, unable to cope with the physical and mental strain that the MS put on them. Some say it was Rinc's drug tolerance and ability to handle pain that kept him alive...others say it was his will to live through his psychic abilities. Whatever the case, he survived and had to be locked up afterwards for fear that he would go completely mad and run rampant.
But it was during his three weeks of imprisonment that Gavin managed to unlock all his Newtype abilities, learning to fully mindread, mindspeak and even ghost walk, or leave his body and wander the halls of the Firewalker complex like that of a ghost. Alone with only his own thoughts and agonies, he harnessed his abilities and used them to trick a guard into releasing his MS from its huge holding cell. He then caused the suit, named "Ashura", to rampage, destroying the base at Greece and leaving only a very small handful of survivors.
Gavin knew, however, that his time to live was short; the process of putting him the MS had cut his life short by years and was slowly causing his body to fall apart. He knew he had to find another host body to try and transfer to, if it were at all possible. The opportunity came when he finally met a young man named Quatre Raberba Winner...another Newtype who had not yet uncovered his latent abilities. The two may have fought until Gavin finally died, but in facing common enemies, the two eventually found common ground and allied themselves against Oz and their forces. In the end, Gavin sacrificed himself to save Quatre from an Oz officer who was hellbent on avenging the dead cadets at the ravaged Lake Victoria base.
However, the spirit of the wrongfully slain are not so easily lain to rest. Gavin's "ghost" took up residence in Gundam Sandrock, and continued to remain there until he was finally transfered to a Hybrid version of a Diablo Assassin 'Droid. Having vowed to make up for his past sins, Gavin is now one of Quatre's closest friends and allies, willing to defend the young Winner to the final death if need be.
Prone to mood swings at times, Gavin can be tempermental and slow to trust people, especially if they have wronged him at any point. His body has been designed to handle combat with other Diablos, thus making him extremely durable and incredibly strong.
