Ryo was born the younger of fraternal twins, his twin sister's name is Hikari. They have an older brother by two years named Ken. At the age of 6, their village was attacked by a neighboring island. Their parents told Ken to take Hikari and Ryo into the woods, hide them, and stay there. But Ken, worried about his friends and family, and his fighter within, he went back, telling Hikari and Ryo he would be back by morning. They tried staying up, but couldn't. When they woke up in the morning, Ken wasn't there. They were extremely frightened. They went to the village, hoping to find one survivor, but to their horror, everyone they knew and loved were dead. Burned, dismembered, thrown into piles. All the houses were burned down. In the distance they saw the ship of the invadors on the horizon. They went back to looking, looking for their parents, looking for Ken. The found their parents right in the door way. But never found Ken. They spent the next 7 years (until they were 13) living in the woods and on the streets. Until where the story begins.
