DYOS 6: Quest for the Mods' Fridge
Drains and Gains by @Thorvald (El Thorvaldo)
My 31st submission to DYOS VI.
The first half of this comic is a follow-up to The F.A.S.E. Door. Hack and Slash are once again implementing the Leech Command, although this exchange is actually based on the Season 3 episode, "Game Over". IF I got Civ4 to boot, it would run adequately enough to be able to play, but quite frequently, and for no reason I could ever discern, it would crash with this error. All I could tell is that it had something to do with 3-D rendering, since if Civ4 went down I also couldn't play OFP without rebooting the system. While these originated as humorous reflections of my real-life computer troubles, I think there were seeds of an actual plot lurking in the shadows, and before I determined I'd have next-to-no input on DYOS 11, I'd thought about using the HAX as a segue to implement Megabyte as an out-and-out villain. That frame in the third panel is from this Suburban Jungle strip.
Khan teaming up with Locke was a totally unexpected but unrefusable offer on the part of taillesskangaru. After the war on the Union died down, the Mongols defaulted to random adventuring in the same style as the pirates, making them natural allies (since they opted not to become mutual competitors). As would soon be seen, concentrating that many mischievous minds in so small an area guarantees excitement in one form or another. In the aftermath of the Brazilian campaign, Khan was made an honourary Pirate; woe betide DYOS if they should ever plot a joint-op in future...
The banner ad is of the tragically generic 'war' option in Civ4 diplomacy; the final spiel is the introductory briefing to the Civ2 World War II scenario, adjusted for the present conflict.
