I was wondering if there will be a "follow" button added to individual forum threads soon. The notification bell seems to be fickle about whether to notify me about new posts on a thread. Some topics interest me even if I have nothing to contribute and wouldn't mind an ability to tune in to a thread in a way that doesn't require involvement and which I could turn on and off whenever I need to.

In a similar vein, some forum software allows you to subscribe to the boards themselves and be notified when new threads are posted. It might take some planning to figure out the tidiest scheme for messaging, but it could be useful as a substitute to manual crawls.
