Fernald's Nightmare
Fernald's Nightmare by @Kooshmeister (Bill Hiers)

Being pantsless is a common phobia and the subject of many a nightmare involving going to school (for kids) or work (for adults) in your underwear. Fernald has his own version of that. In his nightmare, he is going door to door doing his evangelical work and telling people about Jesus when suddenly his belt loosens and his trousers drop, exposing the young squirrel's briefs to all, thoroughly humiliating him and ruining his attempt to spread the good word.

As a consequence, during his waking hours Ferny keeps his belt tightened more than it needs to be, pinching his stomach in discomfort. He'd say screw it and wear suspenders... except then he'd have nightmares about those coming undone and making his pants fall. Most likely it'll eventually happen to him in real life anyway, forcing him to either immediately flee in shame or perhaps even recover and resume evangelizing with his dignity intact. Perhaps this will cure him of this dreaded phobia.

I just thought this was a cute idea for this character. Wardrobe malfunctions can be cute and/or sexy and I like the idea of Fernald doing his door to door "Have you found Jesus?" routine and having this happen. Poor little guy. It seems the cuter I think a character is, the meaner I am to them and Ferny is no exception.
