Late Langrisser Gift by @migucast (Miguel Castaneda)

This picture is SO late I don't even REMEMBER how late it is anymore... I think it's at least over a year late but it could be more than that. I'm... Not sure. I was asked for a couple of Warsong characters, Calais and Sabra. Warsong, for the Sega Genesis is thus far the ONLY game in the Langrisser series to ever make it to North America and anyone who knows anything about Langrisser knows that the series's official artist is one Satoshi Urushihara, the infamous hentai artist with a ridiculously detailed approach of combining cel shaded traditionally cartoony anime women with realistic perportons and physics to their bodies. As such, the challenge here was to try and replicate Urushihara's style as best I could. And... As you can easily tell... I think I missed by a country mile... XD Unfortunately, just the sheer intimidation of trying to replicate such a detailed and amazing style kept me second guessing my work for a long, long time. Eventually, I had to scrap the original version because I just couldn't get it to work. And even though I tried to make it work in Photoshop with the tablet I ended up dragging my feet quite a bit. What also didn't help was that aside from Urushihara's Venus book (which contains some Langrisser pictures, albeit the WRONG Langrisser) and a couple of in game screens, I had no other reference to work off of. There's a character in one of the later games which is featured in the book that looks almost EXACTLY like Calais but due to the limited data available on the series online, I wasn't able to find out if it really was the same character or just character design recycling. But... I did the best I could... With the anatomy, the shading and highlighting... Even Urushihara's overzealous use of lensflare. I did the best I could, I just wish it looked more like his work... Oh, well... I hope the recepient likes it.

Update: Okay. One full day after finishing this picture, I go on Google Images for a something COMPLETELY unrelated... And what happens...? NOW, I find references! NOW! And while I got Calais spot on (surprise, surprise, that IS her in the infamous official nude Langrisser poster which was in my Venus book), I got Sabra completely WRONG... ;; Turns out she has short hair... 69 Well... I was working off two meager screenshots, so what could I do...? Still, now I feel crumby...
