My sixth submission to DYOS XI. [link]

Even at story's start I didn't expect I would contribute much to XI, partly for lack of inspiration, but mainly because DYOS 10.5 was my priority. What I hoped to do, and continued throughout the thread, was to try planting ideas and plot devices for others to use. The Software Pirates were the first, envisioned as warring mercenary factions for the contributors to play with since, at the time, I never imagined the story could otherwise turn political.

They never got picked up; at least, not in the way I'd intended. Reynaud got two pages; Capacitor got one; Locke never received a proper introduction. The story quickly moved beyond the stage when these actors were relevant, and I don't think I'll be able to give them all a proper conclusion.
