Siege the Day
Siege the Day by @Thorvald (El Thorvaldo)

My 29th submission to DYOS VI.

You can tell Locke is a real commander because he can make the best of any setback.

I can't recall what inspired me to do this. I don't even know if we knew Richtofen had a secret base, or if this was all my own invention. Either way, odds are Stylesrj was being annoying again and this was my having fun at a bit character's expense. As 'luck' would have it, this actually grew into something of an attention-grabber, to the point that there was enough involvement by other contributors to spark a round of powergaming that killed the thread by month's end. Sorry, guys.

The soldiers' crack in the last couple of panels was based on something I saw on TV, but for the life of me I can't recall what it was. Richtofen's girlfriend "Magicians Bargainer" was based on... sketches of some sort of tiny women working at a casino that Stylesrj kept referencing during the latter half of the story. I don't think we ever found out what she was supposed to do.

When the Empire Earth Richtofen first appeared in DYOS 5, Stylesjl habitually paired him off with Hermann Göring (who was himself a Flying Circus pilot). Richtofen was totally bastardized, but Göring's character remained surprisingly vague; I decided to play up his career with the Nazis in an attempt to give the Circus a somewhat-menacing underling.
