ABC were fairly confident in the 1990 franchise round. Knowing they can throw their archives to satellite should they lost their franchise, they successfully retained their franchise with an 8 million pound bid, which was slightly more than LWT's but less than Granada's.

To celebrate, they wheeled out their Cinema shield for a new set of CGI idents, with the middle triangle cut out as a window to the regions they served.
